The Design 319 Cloth to Clothing course also focused on the pre-consumer side of fashion design to find solutions for creating a circular fashion system. This project was called the Zero Waste Project and our parameters were to naturally dye three yards of either silk, wool, linen, or cotton and use all three yards of fabric in a garment. For this project, I chose to dye silk using cochineal to create this beautiful pink color. I was intrigued with the subtraction-cutting method and designed a classic shirt dress with long, open sleeves. With the extra fabric, I created a belt for more shaping and a necktie or headband.
