The final project of my Design 319 Cloth to Clothing course was the Affinity Project where we took two opposing concepts and designed a garment from them. I created this piece with the concepts of order/chaos and masculinity/femininity. I flat patterned a man's fitted jacket, draped the mantua back skirt, and added fringes, bows, and other experimental mocking samples to the back skirt. I wanted this sculptural garment piece to be part flat patternmaking and draping to symbolize order/chaos elements as the precise patternmaking would align with order and the draping align with chaos. The draping was much less precise, chaotic, and "of the moment." I also continued to play with the idea of masculine and feminine garments concerning the male form.
