The final project for my Patternmaking course was to develop our "dream dress" from concept to CAD flats to final product. A technical page and cutter's must was also included in the product package.
The first step was to develop the story and theme of my dress design. I drew inspiration from gothic and medieval themes, but also wanted to spin some romance into the dress. I decided to design and create a long gown that featured an empire waist, dramatic sleeves, and a richly dark color palette. To solidify my design, I hand illustrated the dress and then developed a CAD flat for it. The CAD flat helped me set up the technical page and cutter's must, fleshing out the details of patterning and constructing the dress. This practice taught me how to be detail-oriented, think through each decision, and how every detail mattered when it came to making the dress.
Using flat pattern drafting methods, I created the pattern for the dress and sewed it according to my cutter's must and technical page instructions. By the end of the project, I had created the dress of my romantic goth dreams and presented it to the class.
