Connections: My Childhood Part Two
Project type
Handwoven on a dobby digital loom
Date
March-April 2024
Location
Madison, WI
Spring semester 2024 I explored my Hmong heritage, culture, and childhood through cloth and thread. As a child, I fondly remembered the Thai sashes, the bold colors of red, pink, blue, black, and green, and the cross-stitch embroideries. I wanted to weave a piece encompassing all these design elements that would transport me back to when I was a child. While weaving this piece, warm memories of my sisters dressing each other and taking photos in highly adorned traditional Thai dresses with threads of gold and silver flooded my mind. I turned this weaving into a wrap blouse often seen in Thai traditional wear that can be worn in a few different ways. This hand woven garment was woven on a dobby digital loom.
