Connections: My Childhood Part Three
Project type
Garment design and construction, CAD flats, fashion design
Date
February-March 2024
Location
Madison, WI
Spring semester 2024 I explored my Hmong heritage, culture, and childhood through cloth and thread. The second project for my Design 225: Apparel Design I course was our Architecture Project. We researched and took inspiration from a chosen architectural structure and created a small fashion line. I took inspiration from East Asian architecture because I wanted to represent Eastern architecture. Specifically, I drew inspiration from the Temple of Heaven in Beijing and other Asian monasteries and towers. I named my line Lineage for Spring Summer 2025 with the look and feel of a glamorous, young, and rich Asian lady. The look I made was the capelet blouse, a long skirt with gore pleats on the side, and an apron belt typically seen in Hmong traditional wear. I focused on clean lines, pleating, and angular lines typical of Eastern architectural design.
